Mum, there are so many memories, of course there are, probably millions. But one that stays with me from over 60 years ago, also includes our Maureen. In 1963, I was posted to Bahrain in the Persian Gulf with the Meteorological Office. This was long before mobile phones and the internet, and the only method of communication was by airmail letter. Well I think I had been in Bahrain for around a couple of years when I got a last minute chance to hitch a ride on a plane back to Gatwick, for a brief holiday.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, after landing, I made my way, eventually, to Maureen and John’s house in Great Massingham. Maureen took me over to Tittleshall, and went in and said “I’ve brought someone to see you Mum.” You were sitting in your chair by the fire in the living room, knitting of course, and the look on your face when I walked into the room will live with me for ever.
Love and miss you,
Mel
